Authorities investigating east hill apartment break-ins

by Mark H. Anbinder, WVBR News.

Ithaca, 25 March 08 -- The Tompkins County Sheriff's Department and Cornell University Police Department are investigating a pair of early-morning intrusions occurring on Ithaca's east hill on Tuesday.

Sheriff's deputies are investigating an apartment break-in that occurred at approximately 2:30am in an apartment complex on the 300 block of Maple Avenue, between Collegetown and East Hill Plaza. The female apartment resident awoke to find an intruder in her bedroom. The intruder, who had entered through an unlocked door, was described as being a white male, approximately six feet tall and 180 pounds.

CUPD officers are investigating a similar break-in down the street, in university-owned Maplewood Apartments. Again, a female resident awoke to find a male subject in her bedroom at about 5:30am. The intruder is described as being a light-skinned male.

Authorities remind area residents to keep doors and windows locked at all times, and ask anyone with information about either incident to contact Cornell University Police at 607-255-1111 or the Tompkins County Sheriff's Department at 607-257-1345.
