T.I. and TV on the Radio will headline Slope Day 2007 at Cornell

Ithaca, 5 April 07 -- The Memorial Room in Willard Straight Hall was a little bit more tense than usual this afternoon, as Cornell Student Assembly Executive Vice President Mark Coombs welcomed the "above average crowd" to this week's Student Assembly meeting. The reason for the above average crowd was universally known: today the Slope Day Programming Board would officially announce this year's artists for Cornell's Slope Day Celebration, taking place on May 4th, 2007.

The announcement was the first item on the Assembly's agenda and there was a buzz in the room as Chair Lizz Giorgos, Selections Director Adrien Prieto, and Executive Director of the Cornell Concert Commission Mike Chua approached the microphone and introduced themselves. Chua began the proceedings with the announcement that New York alt-rockers TV on the Radio will be this year's opening act. Aside from being featured as a Test Track on WVBR's Forced Awkwardness in February, this band has achieved great success for their single "Wolf Like Me" and album "Return to Cookie Mountain."

Chua then told the Assembly that this year's headliner would be Grammy Award winning rapper T.I., famous for such club anthems as "Rubber Band Man" and "Bring Em Out." The self-proclaimed "King of the South" won two Grammys in February, one for Best Rap Solo Performance, and one for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Justin Timberlake for "My Love."

Chua called this year's Slope Day line-up "the most eclectic in history." In an exclusive interview with WVBR, Giorgos said that the board is "really excited about the lineup this year." In her opinion, "Slope Day is the biggest campus-wide event there is, and the Slope Day Programming Board tries to strive for diversity in their music lineup. We think we hit the mark this year, there's something for everyone at this year's show."

One more opening artist will be added to the lineup in the next two weeks, and your concert station, WVBR, will of course be the first to bring that announcement to you when it happens.
