Ithaca Wegmans supermarket open again after evacuation this afternoon

Ithaca, 5 May 09 -- A broken gas pipe in a back room forced management at the Wegmans supermarket in Ithaca's west end to evacuate the store earlier this afternoon, but they're once again open for business. Store manager Gary Woloszyn says the store was evacuated as a precaution.

The manager told 14850 Today that the Ithaca Fire Department responded quickly to assist, and "did a wonderful job." No injuries were reported.

Wegmans, on Route 13 southwest of downtown Ithaca, is the area's largest supermarket, part of a popular chain that has expanded from Western New York to cover much of the eastern seaboard.
