Cornell closing Hoy Road through the summerby Mark H. Anbinder, WVBR News.
Ithaca, 26 May 08 -- Cornell University is closing Hoy Road, which serves as the main entrance to campus from Route 366 or Dryden Road, from tomorrow through September. Cornell plans to repair retaining walls along the roadway, stabilize the slope along the gorge, add bicycle lanes and pedestrian crosswalks, and resurface the road. Beginning tomorrow, drivers on Route 366 will have to enter the Cornell campus via Judd Falls and Campus Road, or through Collegetown. Access to the parking garage will be from the upper Campus Road entrance; all cars will exit the garage onto Hoy Road and will have to turn right to head to Campus Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the Hoy Road project, though some construction operations may require workers to block pedestrian access temporarily. Bicyclists are asked to use the pedestrian walkways with caution, as the roadway will not be available. For the duration of the road work, Cornell's East Hill Shuttle service, carrying staff and faculty between the East Hill Office Building and central campus, will be rerouted through Collegetown on Oak Avenue, Dryden Road, and College Avenue. Cornell says Hoy Road will be reopened to allow for the arrival of new students on August 21st and 22nd, then will close again until the project is completed in September.
