Kolb says manufacturing key to Upstate N.Y. economy

Ithaca, 2 May 08 -- Central New York Assemblyman Brian Kolb says manufacturing is key to the upstate economy, which has grown less than a half percent since 2003. Kolb has proposed the Manufacturing Preservation and Enhancement Act of 2008, with provisions for tax incentives for manufacturing firms. The Assemblyman from Canandaigua, who represents districts in Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga, Ontario, and Seneca Counties, says New York has to reverse the trend of manufacturing firms fleeing the state due to skyrocketing taxes and astronomical energy bills.

Metropolitan Opera comes to Ithaca

Ithaca, 2 May 08 -- Regal Cinemas at Ithaca Mall will be showing the Met's performance of La Boheme on Wednesday evening, May 15th. It's an encore showing of the opera as shown live last month at nearby theatres at Carousel Mall in Syracuse and Crossgates in Albany.

A representative from Regal says they've already sold about 70 or 80 tickets for the Ithaca showing in just a couple of days. Ticket prices range from $15 to 22 for La Boheme, and you'll get your money's worth -- the opera runs over three hours, with two intermissions.
