Cornell finishes Hoy Road early, reopens in time for students to arrive

Photo: Hoy RoadIthaca, 21 August 08 -- Hoy Road, the "main entrance" to the Cornell University campus that's been closed since late May, reopened today ahead of schedule. The road was slated to be opened this weekend for the arrival of Cornell's latest crop of freshmen, and then close again until mid-September, but closing off pedestrian access for the last few weeks allowed crews to finish the entire project early.

With Hoy Road reopened, Cornell's East Hill Shuttle Bus, available for staff and faculty, will resume its route to central campus via Hoy Road instead of through Collegetown.

14850 Today suggests avoiding roads on, through, or near the Cornell campus on Friday and Saturday if at all possible. Campus Road and the North Campus and West Campus residential areas will be particularly busy. Cornell staff commuters who normally park in A Lot on Pleasant Grove Road are being asked to park elsewhere tomorrow.

Two stretches of Pine Tree Road closed in Town of Ithaca

Ithaca, 18 August 08 -- Pine Tree Road from the intersection of Maple Avenue (north of East Hill Plaza) to Route 366 (Dryden Road) will be closed from this morning through Wednesday evening, August 20th, for milling and re-paving. The stretch of Pine Tree Road from Route 79 (Slaterville Road) to Honness Lane was scheduled to be closed today through Wednesday; it's now expected to reopen to traffic on Thursday evening, August 21st.

Ithaca, 18 August 08 -- The Village of Cayuga Heights extended the planned closure of Pleasant Grove Road to complete repaving work. Originally scheduled for August 4th through 15th, the closure was extended through Tuesday, August 19th. Through traffic is being rerouted onto Hanshaw, Warren, Triphammer, and Jessup Roads.
