Syracuse comes back for overtime win in NCAA lax final

25 May 09 -- In a heartbreaking finale for Big Red fans, the Syracuse Orangemen fought back to tie this afternoon's NCAA championship game at 9 goals each with just four seconds left in regulation, then scored early in the first sudden-victory overtime period to win the game. Cornell upset the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday with a stunning 15-6 win to make it to today's title game.

Cornell advances to NCAA Lacrosse championship game against Syracuse

24 May 09 -- A stunning upset over first-seeded Virginia sends Big Red men's lacrosse to the NCAA title game for the first time in 21 years, against a Syracuse squad that topped the Duke Blue Devils in earlier action on Saturday. Cornell leapt out to a 2-0 start and never gave up the lead in yesterday's semifinal game, en route to a 15-6 victory.

The national championship game will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN HD starting at 1:00pm Monday afternoon. ESPN is on Ithaca's Time Warner Cable at channel 38, channel 206 on DirecTV, and channel 140 on DISH Network. The game will also be on WHCU AM 870 in Ithaca, and online video and audio via cornellbigred.com.

The Orange topped Cornell in the teams' last meeting, 15-10, in early April in Syracuse, and has a 6-4 edge over their last ten meetings. Red faced Orange in Cornell's last title game appearance; Syracuse won that 1988 title game 13-8 at home.

Big Red Lacrosse gears up for Virginia in NCAA Semifinal game

23 May 09 -- Cornell men's lacrosse is in the NCAA semifinals for the second time in just three years, facing top-seed Virginia Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The 2pm game will be broadcast on ESPN2, and on the radio on WHCU.

Cornell got to the semis on last Saturday's 6-4 win over Princeton in the NCAA quarterfinals at Hofstra, after topping Hofstra itself in the first round the weekend before. The team's sixteen seniors will miss tomorrow's graduation in Ithaca, but it's just as well; most of them didn't bother ordering caps and gowns before the deadline passed, in hopes they'd be away this weekend.

The game will be on ESPN2, available on channel 58 on Ithaca's Time Warner Cable, channel 209 on DirecTV, and channel 144 on DISH Network, as well as on WHCU AM 870 in Ithaca and online video and audio available via CornellBigRed.com.

Cornell last won a national semifinal game in 1988. If they win this afternoon, they'll go on to Monday's championship game against the winner of this afternoon's early game between Syracuse and Duke. It would be the Big Red's first visit to the title game in 21 years.
