Ithaca, 14 October 08 -- The Ithaca Beer Company announced yesterday that Chief and Bill, the brewery's two pilgrims dispatched to this weekend's Great American Beer Festival in Denver, came home with two medals. The company earned silver medals for its Brute and CascaZilla brews.

Brute, the fourth and latest beer in the company's Excelsior series of limited-edition beers sold in 750ml champagne bottles, took a silver medal in the American Style or German Style Sour Ale category. Brewed with vintage local hops, Brute is fermented with wild yeast for its distinctive sour flavour, then finished with three different Champagne yeasts.

CascaZilla is a hoppy red ale that takes its name from both the local gorge and the Cascade hops used in the beer. It won a silver medal in the GABF American Style Amber/Red Ale category. 'Zilla is one of the company's frequent seasonal special beers that quickly gained popularity and joined the full-time line-up.

A selection of Ithaca Beer's Excelsior brews, as well as the company's mainstays, are on tap at Pixel Lounge in Collegetown and Ithaca Ale House in Downtown Ithaca, among other pubs around town.
