Police say they responded to "multiple reports of gunshots fired" in the area of West Buffalo Street and North Albany Street, but "involved parties had fled the scene by the time officers arrived."

Photo courtesy of Joseph W Gillam.Evidence of the incident "was clearly left" in the 200 block of West Buffalo Street, according to a police statement. The only damage from the shooting, which occurred at about 3pm on Saturday, was to a private vehicle parked on the side of the street, a Honda Fit owned by a nearby resident.

IPD says their initial investigation suggests "at least two persons" engaged in an altercation, ending in one "pulling a shotgun from their clothing and firing at another man." Police say witnesses described the person with the shotgun as "a young black adult male of average height and build."

According to police, witnesses said the shooter got in the passenger seat of a nearby sedan, "which sped away westbound" on Buffalo Street, and the person who'd been shot at ran from the scene on foot "in a northeasterly direction." Police say they don't know whether anyone was injured.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and ask that anyone with information that might aid the investigation contact the criminal investigations unit through police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the administration line at 607-272-9973, the Crimestoppers Tipline at 607-697-0333, or the anonymous online tip form.
