Have you always wished Ithaca had a Fife & Drum Corps? It's about to!

January 21, 2016 by Rachel Cera

Ithaca has an annual Scottish Games and Celtic Festival that draws fife and drum bands from elsewhere, but finally we're going to have one of our very own.

The Finger Lakes Fife & Drum Corps is starting up this winter, and they're holding an Open House next Thursday at Ithaca's VFW hall so interested folks can learn more or join. The new band is aimed at "young people, ages 10-21, from Ithaca, surrounding towns, and the Finger Lakes region," and membership dues will cover weekly lessons, instruments, and uniforms.

"Our young musicians will be taught to play fifes, snare drums, or bass drums," says the group's website, and no previous experience is necessary.

The Open House is Thursday January 28 at 7pm at the Ithaca VFW at 423 West State Street, and more info is available at flfifedrum.com.
