An unidentified 22-year-old man is reportedly in stable condition this morning after suffering a gunshot wound in Collegetown just before 1:30am Tuesday, say Ithaca police. The Ithaca Police Department says their officers and Cornell University police responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the 100 block of Oak Avenue.
According to police reports, several area residents reported hearing four or five gunshots, but no suspects or victims were found in the area. Some residents reported seeing a "dark-colored vehicle" leaving the area just after the shots.
At 2:05am, county dispatchers asked officers to investigate a report of a man with a gunshot wound near the intersection of Hancock Street and Third Street. Arriving IPD officers found a man, conscious, alert, and walking, who'd been "shot in the gluteus maximus."
The victim confirmed that he had been shot in the area of the 100 block of Oak Avenue, but refused to provide additional information about the incident or the perpetrator. He was transported to Cayuga Medical Center by Bangs Ambulance.
Police ask anyone with additional information to call them at 607-272-9973.
