Cornell lacrosse hosts eleventh annual Dream Factory blood drive this Thursday

February 2, 2016 by Mark H. Anbinder

Cornell University men's and women's lacrosse players are hosting their eleventh annual blood drive on Cornell's Ithaca campus. The drive kicks off the 2016 "Save the Day" campaign for the Dream Factory of Central New York.

Blood donations usually drop off during the winter months, but the need for donated blood is often higher. Regular donations of all blood types are needed, but type O negative donations are especially helpful. O is the "universal donor;" that blood type can be given to nearly any patient. At this drive, blood donors with O-, O+, A-, or B- blood types can opt for a Double Red Cell donation, which can help even more recipients.

Donors always get a snack and something to drink to begin replenishing their fluids and blood sugar levels. At this drive, homemade cookies will be provided, and Cornell lacrosse players will be on hand to welcome donors and hand out snacks.

Other upcoming blood drives in the Ithaca area include the Newfield Fire Department from 8am-12noon on Saturday, February 6th, Cornell Vet College from 11:30am-5pm on Monday, February 8th, and the Ithaca Ramada from 11am-5pm on Thursday, February 11th.

The Dream Factory of Central New York helps to improve the lives of sick children. For more information or to request an application for a child, e-mail or call 607-272-1264.

The blood drive is Thursday, February 4th, from 11am-4pm, in room G10 of Cornell's Biotechnology Building. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. E-mail to make an appointment.
