Cornell University officials say the University will close at 3am as an anticipated winter storm approaches the Ithaca area. As of Tuesday evening, the school plans to reopen at 9:30am, with classes slated to begin at 10am. Ithaca College has announced similar plans to open offices at 9:30 and begin classes at 10.
Weather forecasts for the area suggest as much as 10-14 inches of snow could fall between Tuesday evening and Wednesday evening, when the snow is likely to taper off.
Cornell had already informed staff on Tuesday afternoon that they should use their best judgement as to whether it was safe to report to work on Wednesday.
Ithaca College says essential personnel should report to work at their usual times, if possible, and essential services such as health, facilities, dining, and public safety will operate as usual.
With the heaviest snowfall likely to come in the early morning hours, we expect several area school closings. Morning flights between Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport and east-coast airports, Newark and Philadelphia, are likely to be canceled. Watch 14850 Today and the IthacaNet for updates.
