IPD investigating rape in Collegetown, says Cornell

February 10, 2015 by Mark H. Anbinder

The Ithaca Police Department is investigating a report of rape from an apartment in the 100 block of Dryden Road, in Collegetown, according to an alert from Cornell University. Cornell is required to report certain crimes to the campus community in accordance with the Clery Act of 1998.

According to the University, the victim reported that she was raped while in a Collegetown apartment building sometime between 11:30pm on Saturday, February 7th, and 10am on Sunday, February 8th. The victim did not provide "any further description of the suspect," Cornell says.

A Cornell University Police Department spokesperson says CUPD "cannot comment on investigations by other police agencies or cases under current investigation." An Ithaca Police Department spokesperson says, "As a general rule, IPD does not comment on the particulars of any sexual assault investigation."

The accusation comes on the heels of a jury trial ending in a deadlock on a charge of rape against Peter Mesko, a Cornell student athlete who was arrested nearly two years ago. (He was found guilty of lesser charges of sexual abuse and burglary, and will be sentenced on those crimes.)
