No Parking on East Spencer Street as City moves to clear ice and packed snow

February 17, 2015 by Mark H. Anbinder

Already one of the narrowest streets in Ithaca, and one of the hardest to clear of snow, East Spencer Street was hard hit by the tens of thousands of gallons of water that spilled down South Hill from a water main break this weekend. The City of Ithaca has now posted emergency No Parking signs along the block.

Crews will plow the accumulated snow that has plagued residents trying to park on the one-way street, and clear the ice that has taken over the roadway and sidewalks. Even in good weather, the street is a tight fit between a retaining wall on the south side, and a lane of parking and sidewalk on the north side. Some residents have found their cars are encased in ice following the weekend's flooding.

The City of Ithaca's emergency road work signs say no parking is permitted on the street beginning February 18th, and until signs are removed by DPW staff. Vehicles remaining on the block may be towed at the owner's expense.
