An advisor to U.S. Representative Maurice Hinchey since 1998, Freeville resident Dan Lamb announced his intention to run for Hinchey's seat in Congress just a month after his boss said he'd step down after ten terms. Lamb has advised Rep. Hinchey on such topics as job creation, economic growth, infrastructure, and the risks of hydrofracking.
Lamb earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Ithaca College and a Master's in Public Administration at Syracuse University before entering politics. Most recently, he managed the Ithaca and Binghamton district offices for Hinchey, who announced at his home district office in Kingston on January 19th that he wouldn't seek re-election. "My work in this region on behalf of Congressman Hinchey has given me tremendous insights into the strengths and needs of the Southern Tier and Central New York," Lamb says.
Lamb says he must wait for the New York State legislature to finish a redistricting process before he'll know exactly the boundaries of the district he'll seek to represent in Washington. "Over the next few weeks as we await the State Legislature’s and Governor’s action on Congressional redistricting, I’ll be gathering information and reaching out to many old and new friends," he said in a statement. New York is losing two seats in the House of Representatives due to slower population growth than other states. The 27 districts that will remain will average 719,298 constituents, compared to an average of 655,344 residents in the previous 29 districts.
