The Ithaca Police Department says Devell Tribie was arrested when IPD's SWAT unit served a search warrant at an Elm Street residence early Thursday morning in an alleged narcotics case. Tompkins County sheriff's deputies and the New York State Police community narcotics enforcement team assisted on the scene.
A media release from IPD says the search warrant was issued "after a comprehensive police investigation determined narcotics activity in the residence." An IPD spokesperson declined to comment on what led the police investigation to the West Hill residence or to Mr. Tribie.
Tribie was located inside the residence when police served the search warrant at about 5:30am, and was arrested on a warrant issued by Ithaca City Court on charges of criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor that does not generally reflect drug charges, and was taken to IPD headquarters for booking.
Police also found and seized "a small amount" of marijuana and $1,100 in cash during the search. IPD did not elaborate on what they were looking for.
