Ithaca police say they're continuing to investigate a shooting that occurred shortly before 11pm Sunday in the 200 block of Elm Street. The victim, 27-year-old Jeremy Grant, has been reluctant to identify the man who shot him, or provide complete details about the incident.
Police officers responded to a report of gunshots at about 10:48pm, assisted by Bangs Ambulance and Ithaca Fire Department personnel. Once IPD officers determined the scene was safe, responders located Grant in his residence, where he'd run after being shot.
Grant had been attacked while walking home, reportedly by a black male with a slim build. Police say the shooting does not appear to have been a random act of violence; Grant and the suspect "are familiar with each other," and were reportedly arguing prior to the shooting.
The culprit fired four or five shots from a small-caliber handgun, striking Grant three times. Grant was transported to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, for treatment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
