Update: Cortland Police canceled this Amber Alert at 4:59pm. No further information has been provided.

The City of Cortland Police Department has activated New York State's Amber Alert system on Friday afternoon, saying a four-year-old child was forcibly abducted from a Lincoln Avenue location in Cortland by a non-custodial parent. The activation includes Central New York, the Southern Tier, and the Hudson Valley.

Police say Liam Brandon Barr-Whitfield, about four years and nine months old, was forcibly abducted by his non-custodial father from a supervised visitation. Liam is a white male, about three feet four inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and weighs about 45 pounds. He was last seen wearing camouflage pants, a grey t-shirt with lettering that reads "this is what cool looks like," and black and green sneakers. He has a navy blue rain jacket with a hood.

Cortland police say suspect Shane Whitfield is a white male, about 57 years old with shaved blond hair and blue eyes. He is about six feet three inches tall and weighs about 215 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue t-shirt. Whitfield's vehicle, a grey Nissan Frontier pickup truck, Florida license plate 191YTL, was last seen traveling on Lincoln Avenue. Authorities believe Whitfield, who they say has a "lengthy history of violence," may be heading to Florida.

Anyone with any information about the abduction or who spots Whitfield or the pickup truck is asked to immediately dial 911 or call 866-NYS-AMBER. The alert was issued at 4:05pm. Police say the abduction occurred at about 2:50pm.
