Home Turf: Big Red Lacrosse hosts Albany in first round of NCAA playoffs this Saturday

May 8, 2015 by Rachel Cera

Cornell Lacrosse is back in town, and they're hosting Albany in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Big Red earned an at-large bid despite falling to Princeton in last weekend's Ivy League semifinal round.

It's the third year in a row Cornell earned a bid to the NCAA tournament, and they'll play host to the sixth-ranked Albany Great Danes at noon on Saturday. Cornell has beaten Albany in both previous meetings, in the 2007 NCAA quarterfinals in Princeton, and this February in the Patriot Cup in a snowy Dallas.

Albany brings a 15-2 overall record, 6-0 in America East, to Saturday's match-up. Cornell is 10-5 on the season, 4-2 in Ivy League play, but they're one of just six teams left in the NCAA with an undefeated home season. The win over Princeton to end the regular season two weeks ago gave the Big Red a 6-0 home mark. Cornell says men's lacrosse is 228-73 all-time at home, for a remarkable .757 winning percentage, and they have five perfect home seasons over the last eleven.

It's the eleventh time in the last twelve seasons the Big Red has made it to the NCAA tournament. The winner of tomorrow's game will go on to the NCAA quarterfinal round at Mile High Stadium in Denver, next Saturday.

Tickets are $10 for Saturday's game. Discounted seats are $8 for senior citizens and $5 for kids 12 and under. Fans who can't make it to Schoellkopf Field can watch the game on ESPNU or online at espn3.com or on the WatchESPN app.
