After a hazardous chemical accident, Cortland SPCA reaches out for donations of pet supplies

May 11, 2015 by Mark H. Anbinder

All of the staff and animals who were at the Cortland Community SPCA on Monday morning are OK, according to the organization. Their facility on McLean Road in Cortland had to be evacuated after chemicals were inadvertently combined this morning.

Several drop-off locations were quickly set up today for area residents who were able to donate wet and dry dog and cat food, treats, leashes, collars, harnesses, blankets, towels, kongs and other assorted toys, and stainless steel food and water bowls of all sizes. Donations are still being accepted at Sun Auto Warehouse, Tractor Supply, Country Max, the Cortlandville Central Fire Station and the McLean Fire Station, as well as the SPCA of Tompkins County and K&H Bottle and Can Redemption Center in Ithaca's west end.

"Without your help the animals would not be back in the kennels they call home, they would have no bedding and no food," the Cortland Community SPCA said this afternoon. A representative says the shelter will be closed on Tuesday so staff can finish cleaning up the facility, and so the animals can de-stress.
