Ithaca police believe a man who jumped into Fall Creek earlier today is deceased. "We have not yet located him," IPD public information officer Jamie Williamson tells us.

"The current carried him over the falls," Williamson says. Responders from multiple local agencies have been searching near the Stewart Avenue bridge and near Ithaca Falls east of Lake Street, and a New York State Police SCUBA dive team and New York State Police helicopter are both en route to Ithaca to assist in the search.

Police say the victim is described as a white male, about 25-35 years old, with dark hair, wearing dark clothing. They ask anyone with information that could be helpful to contact IPD at 607-272-3245 or 607-272-9973.

Witnesses say the creek's waters are high due to recent heavy rains. "The swift-moving currents carried the subject downstream and over the Ithaca Falls," Williamson says.
