They'll be conducting "high rise" fire training, says Lt. Thomas T. Basher Jr., IFD's public information officer.

"A parking garage is a great spot because it has the open stairwells like a high rise, but we can flow water without doing any damage to a real building," says Basher. He says Ithaca's firefighters have many high-rise buildings, defined as "any building the tallest ladder can not reach," he says, in the area, so they train for "emergencies that can happen."

There's "no cause for alarm," according to Cornell's advisory. The exercise is for training and planning purposes.
