Ithaca neck and neck with Burlington in quarterfinals of America's Best Place to Live contest

June 3, 2014

The voting ends tonight just before midnight, and Ithaca is neck and neck with Burlington, Vermont in the East Quarterfinal of Outside Magazine's 2014 America's Best Place to Live tournament. As of this writing, Ithaca has a slim lead, with 20,906 votes to Burlington's 20,890.

Last week, when Ithaca was trailing Portland, Maine, Ithaca mayor Svante Myrick exclaimed, "We are the best 'outside' town in the country!" and urged area residents to vote. Ithaca won the third round, and moved on to face Burlington, which had bested its smaller neighbor, Montpelier.

Votes are being tallied at outsideonline.com, and Ithaca residents have until 11:59pm EDT to vote in the fourth round.
