West end resident rattled by early morning home invasion robbery

June 4, 2014

The Ithaca Police Department says a man answering the door of his home on Floral Avenue at about 4:30 this morning found two men who forced their way in at gunpoint and robbed the apartment.

"One of the suspects choked him while the other suspect retrieved two safes from within the apartment," an IPD press release says. After trying and failing to tie up the victim, the two men ordered him into the bathroom, where he waited until he could no longer hear them in the house before coming out and calling police, who responded quickly.

The victim described one of the suspects as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and the other was a male of unknown race, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The two escaped with the safes containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

IPD asks that anyone with information that might aid the investigation contact the criminal investigations unit through police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the administration line at 607-272-9973, the Crimestoppers Tipline at 607-697-0333, or the anonymous online tip form.
