Commercial truck spill closes Campus Road on Cornell campus

June 8, 2015 by Rachel Cera

Early this afternoon, a spill from a commercial vehicle forced the closure of Campus Road, the east-west thoroughfare on the south side of the Cornell University campus, according to Cornell officials. An alert at 12:42pm said the road would be closed for about 30 minutes.

Update: Cornell says Campus Road is now open to all traffic, as of 1:45pm.

Cornell's alert encouraged drivers to "find alternate routes during this time," and said the closure was "due to a commercial vehicle oil spill."

Witnesses at the scene said the commercial vehicle, stopped near Sage Hall, had "regulated medical waste" and "radioactive waste" placards visible, and said a large number of Cornell's Environmental Health and Safety staff members were on hand.

Tower Road is already closed east of Garden Avenue beginning today for "a major infrastructure project." The road will be closed from East Avenue to Garden Avenue for three weeks beginning this Wednesday, as well.
