North Spencer Christian Academy was so damaged by last night's flooding that the school will be closed for the remainder of the year, say administrators. The school is asking for adult volunteers to help clean up and survey, and for donations to help with the costs.

A school awards ceremony, Kindergarten graduation, and Class of 2015 graduation will be held at an alternate venue to be determined later this week. The school's main phone, 607-589-6366, is back up and running for community members who have questions or concerns.

The school says much of the building has sustained flood damage, including nursery, Pre-K rooms, cafeteria, and kitchenette. "The main hallway from the cafeteria to the rear of the school was a four-foot running creek."

Volunteer crews are urged to bring work gloves and boots. Meals will be provided; anyone who'd like to help with meals is encouraged to call 607-589-6207.

The school, affiliated with the North Spencer Baptist Church, hopes to raise $100,000 in the coming months to help replace educational materials and other "things that we use for day to day operations," many of which were ruined by flooding.
