Cayuga Heights officers and Tompkins County deputies arrest barricaded subject on East Hill

July 8, 2015 by Rachel Cera

An Ithaca man is in Tompkins County Jail tonight after officers from the Cayuga Heights Police Department and deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff's Department teamed up to serve felony warrants. After a standoff at an East Hill residence during which police officers reportedly had their weapons drawn according to a witness, the man was "taken into custody without incident," according to the Sheriff's Department.

19-year-old Tyriek Spann barricaded himself in an apartment on Snyder Hill Road that's rented in his mother's name when Sheriff's deputies arrived just before 4:30 this afternoon. "He initially failed to respond to law enforcement's requests to exit the residence," according to the Sheriff's Department.

It's not Mr. Spann's first visit to the county lock-up. He was arrested by Cornell University police officers just over a year ago on Tower Road for driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to keep right, and failure to stop at a stop sign. That incident was logged by CUPD at 2:41am on June 23rd of last year.

A witness at the scene who lives in the neighborhood says police and sheriff's deputies left the area at about 6:30pm.

Spann was arraigned in Town of Ithaca Court on Wednesday evening on probation violation charges and remanded to Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail.

Sheriff's Department officials did not respond to requests for further information.
