Ithaca police looking into reported late-night shooting at West Village Apartments

August 3, 2014 by Rachel Cera

The Ithaca Police Department responded to multiple calls to Tompkins County Dispatch reporting shots fired late Friday night, but never found any suspects or victims. The incident shortly after midnight was near Abbott Lane, in the West Village Apartments complex on Ithaca's west hill.

Responding officers found "multiple bullet casings" consistent with those that would be left behind by firing a semiautomatic handgun. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing the sound of gunshots being fired, and seeing males running from the scene after the shooting.

Update on Tuesday, August 5th: IPD public information officer Lt. Jamie Williamson tells 14850 Today, "We are still seeking the public's help in determining the events that led up to the shooting and identifying the people involved."

IPD asks that anyone with information that might aid the investigation contact the criminal investigations unit through police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the administration line at 607-272-9973, the Crimestoppers Tipline at 607-697-0333, or the anonymous online tip form.
