Serious flooding around Ithaca and Lansing after another afternoon of heavy rain

August 5, 2014 by Mark H. Anbinder

We're hearing lots of reports of localized flooding around Tompkins County after an afternoon of heavy rain. Severe thunderstorms dropped hail as big as golf balls and nearly an inch of rain in just a couple of hours.

Roads were flooded even in higher elevations, including on East Shore Drive where Burdick Hill Road and Cayuga Heights Road join it.

Today's heavy rain came soon after damaging thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities remind drivers never to drive into or across flooded roadways, since it can be difficult to tell how deep the water may be.
