This time of year, a couple of weeks before public schools open for the fall, kids and parents are scrambling to gather what they need for the new year. Pencils, binders, and backpacks are just the beginning. For too many families, it's a stressful reminder that limited dollars don't stretch as far as they used to.
To help local families who are having trouble, the owners of Ciao and the BoatYard Grill, two popular local restaurants, have a collection drive this week. If you can spare a few bucks, or grab a few extra items while doing your shopping, it could really help one of your neighbors!
Manager Brian Jardin says those donating school supplies who post a photo on social media networks of the supplies they donate, tagged #byggivesback, will be entered in a drawing for gift cards good at both Ciao and BoatYard Grill.
School supplies drive organizers say items needed include #2 pencils, construction paper and tissue paper, Post-It Notes, Crayola crayons and thick or thin markers, colored pencils, disposable cameras, baskets and bins, highlighters, lined and unlined paper and notebooks, backpacks, pencil sharpeners, glue bottles and sticks, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, snacks, hats and gloves, socks and sweatshirts, scissors, smocks, and art supplies. Also needed are supplies for teachers, such as Zip drives and disks, zip-top bags, cups, plates, silverware, dry-erase markers, stickers, pens, poster board, index cards, staplers, hand sanitizer, playground gear, and more.
Donations will be accepted at Ciao on North Triphammer Road from 4-8pm on August 18th-21st, and at BoatYard Grill from 4-9pm on August 22nd, and from Noon-8pm on August 23rd-24th.
