Police investigating shots fired Saturday evening in Ithaca's southwest

August 31, 2013

Ithaca police officers responded to a neighborhood near the Tops shopping plaza in Ithaca's southwest on Saturday evening after 911 dispatchers received multiple calls reporting shots had been fired in the area. No shooting victims were found.

According to witnesses, two vehicles, a black SUV and a silver sedan, were stopped in the 300 block of Wood Street, an east-west street that ends at Meadow Street. A person was seen standing outside the SUV and firing several shots.

After the shots were fired, witnesses say the silver sedan, which may have been a Toyota or an Audi, backed away to head east, nearly striking a pedestrian. The black SUV drove west, and was last seen turning north onto Meadow Street.

Police say they believe a small caliber handgun was used, and ask that anyone with information about the incident contact them at 607-272-3245 or the IPD tip line at 607-697-0333 or online.
