Ithaca Firefighters rescue two stranded rock climbers at Ithaca Falls on Tuesday

Two climbers who ignored warning signs to stay on marked trails and tried to scale the rock wall next to Ithaca Falls had to be rescued on Tuesday afternoon.

Photo courtesy of IFD.The Ithaca Fire Department says firefighters were called to the scene when two people were trapped halfway up. Crews closed off Stewart Avenue to allow unimpeded access, and then personnel rappelled down to the stranded climbers.

IFD says Ithaca police, Bangs Ambulance personnel, and Cornell emergency crews also responded to the scene.

No one was injured, but IFD officials took the opportunity to remind area residents "to only hike on marked trails and to stay out of restricted areas.
