Gas line work in the Tuning Fork area of Downtown Ithaca will disrupt traffic next Monday and Tuesday, say City of Ithaca officials. The Department of Public Works says NYSEG will be performing gas line work across East State Street just east of the intersection with Green Street and Seneca Way. The Tuning Fork, east of the Commons, is where East State Street meets the curved sections of Green Street and Seneca Way.

NYSEG work will disrupt traffic on Monday and Tuesday. 14850 Photo.DPW staff says the work will require crews to reduce traffic flow to a single lane, probably from about 7am to 6pm on Monday, September 30th, and most likely again on Tuesday, October 1st. Flaggers will direct traffic, and all traffic may need to be stopped for short periods of time.
City officials say drivers could face significant delays, especially as East State Street has already been congested due to work on Seneca Way closing one of two westbound lanes, and work further up East State Street slowing eastbound traffic as crews rebuild the intersection with Mitchell Street.
Commuters can avoid the construction area bottleneck by using Seneca Street (westbound only) or Buffalo Street.
