Hundreds in Cayuga Heights and Ithaca's northeast without power after thunderstorm

September 30, 2014 by Rachel Cera

Nearly 2,000 customers of New York State Electric & Gas are without power on Tuesday evening in the wake of a quick but dramatic thunderstorm that swept across the area. NYSEG says customers can expect power back around 10pm.

The affected areas include Pleasant Grove Road, Hanshaw Road, Sapsucker Woods, Highland Road, and a number of small residential roads off Stewart Avenue and Triphammer Road. The storm also left a small number of businesses in Ithaca's southwest without power along South Meadow Street. The Wegmans supermarket reportedly asked customers to leave after power went out.

This afternoon's storm systems brought considerable wind and hail across the Southern Tier. Scattered thunderstorms are possible for the rest of the evening.
