Police and Firefighters gathering for first annual police vs fire softball game to benefit Make A Wish

October 2, 2015 by Rachel Cera

Ithaca College's Kostrinsky Field will be the site of this Saturday's benefit softball game, pitting Ithaca's firefighters and police officers in "the inaugural game of a new tradition."

"Looks like beautiful fall weather for the game tomorrow," says organizer Barry Banfield. "Game on as planned!" Early weather forecasts for this weekend were less optimistic.

Gates will open at 3pm Saturday on south hill for the 4pm game, and tickets will be sold for $5 at the gate. Admission includes access to a "bounce house" for kids, and an entry in raffles for items donated by sponsors, including passes to Greek Peak's water park, Cinemapolis movie tickets, a Boatyard Grill gift certificate, and more.

"All of the firefighters are looking forward to it," says Ithaca Fire Department public information officer Lt. Thomas T. Basher Jr. "We have a lot of friends over at IPD, and many of us have played on teams together in the Ithaca softball leagues in the past, so it will be fun to get back on the field together," Tom tells us.

"It is going to be a great event for our officers, firefighters, and the community as a whole," says Officer Jamie Williamson, the Ithaca Police Department public information officer. "We have a team in place, and are practicing and preparing to win the game."
