Suspicious man approaches teen in Collegetown, police say

October 3, 2014 by Rachel Cera

A teenager waiting to be picked up by a parent was approached in Collegetown by a "suspicious" man on Thursday afternoon, according to the Ithaca Police Department. Can you help police identify the individual?

According to an IPD statement, a 15-year-old was waiting for a ride at the corner of Stewart Avenue and East Buffalo Street when a man in a pickup truck stopped in front of the teen and yelled out to ask what he was doing. The teenager didn't reply, and the man yelled again, telling him to get in the truck.

IPD public affairs officer Jamie Williamson says the teen then pulled out his phone and said he was calling the police, at which point the suspicious man sped off northbound on Stewart Avenue.

Police say the driver of the truck, a dark green F-150 with an FX off-road package decal on the side, was a white male, about 30 years old, with short grey hair. He was wearing a Yankees cap and black sunglasses. The truck has a red toolbox in the truck bed, and a loud exhaust.

IPD asks that anyone who might have seen the incident, or recognized the described individual or vehicle, or with other information that might aid their investigation, contact them through police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the administration line at 607-272-9973, the Crimestoppers Tipline at 607-697-0333, or the anonymous online tip form.
