Tompkins health officials looking for dog that bit a boy in Fall Creek area

October 15, 2014 by Mark H. Anbinder

The Tompkins County Health Department says they're looking for a dog that bit a boy on a bike on Monday afternoon, to make sure the dog doesn't have a rabies infection.

Officials say a medium size dog with brown fur, resembling a boxer or pit bull mix, bit a boy riding a bicycle in front of the Gimme! Coffee location at the corner of Cayuga Street and Cascadilla Street, at about 5:20pm on Monday, October 13th. The dog was being walked on a leash by a man and a woman.

If health officials can't rule out the possibility that the dog has rabies, the boy may have to undergo a series of rabies treatments that include painful injections.

Anyone with information about the dog is asked to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at 607-274-6688.
