October 17, 2014 by Rachel Cera

With both Homecoming weekend and the annual meeting of Cornell University's trustees coinciding for the first time, it promises to be a busy couple of days on east hill. The festivities begin Friday night with a fireworks and laser show that's open to the public.

This time, the laser show "features cutting-edge 3D laser technology," and there will be performances by students and Ithaca community groups.

The family-friendly show is scheduled for 8-9pm at Schoellkopf Field, the university's football stadium off Route 366. Free parking is available at Cornell's B Lot, near the vet school, with a free shuttle bus looping between the parking area and the stadium.

Homecoming weekend at Cornell is souped up this year as part of the celebration of the university's Sesquicentennial. A 5K run is scheduled at the Plantations for Saturday morning, a family fun zone and fan festival will take place next to the football stadium starting at noon Saturday, and the Big Red takes on Lehigh at 3pm. Cornell Football is 0-4 so far this season, and comes off a 24-7 loss on the road at Harvard. Last time they faced Lehigh, in 2008, Cornell edged the Mountain Hawks 25-24.
