Big Red Hockey begins men's and women's seasons this weekend

Other schools have a weekend or two in the books, but Ivy League rules mean this is the first weekend of play for Cornell University's men's and women's ice hockey teams. The squads are in action today and tomorrow after last Saturday night's annual Red/White scrimmage, which featured both men's and women's players alternating shifts at Lynah Rink.

The Eagles are already 3-0-1 on their season, including a win and a tie at St. Lawrence. Last season, the two teams split a Thanksgiving weekend series, with Cornell shutting out the visiting Eagles 2-0 in the first game, and BC taking a 4-1 win the next day.

The men have an exhibition weekend at home, beginning with the teen players of Team USA's National Development Program on Friday night, and Ottawa's Carleton University on Saturday night. Both games begin at 7pm at Lynah Rink, are on the radio locally on WHCU, and will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network. (An audio-only stream is available at no charge; there's a daily, monthly, or year-long subscription available for video.)

Also this weekend, Sprint Football hosts Post University, and the Big Red varsity football squad hits the road to face Ivy opponent Brown University. The gridders are winless on the season after a comeback attempt against Lehigh last weekend fell short. Men's and women's cross country are hosting the John Reif Memorial Run in Ithaca.
