Photo provided by IPD.Police were dispatched to the area of Chestnut Street and Abbott Lane just before 9pm Thursday after callers to 911 reported a large fight was in progress. After additional calls alerted police that weapons were involved, IPD called in additional agencies. New York State Police troopers, Tompkins County Sheriff's Department deputies, and Cayuga Heights Police Department officers assisted, as well as officers from New York State Park Police and NYS DEC Police.
Two IPD officers who responded to the scene found a woman in the 600 block of Chestnut Street who had suffered a stab wound to the neck, and carried her away from the scene to a safer location. They provided first aid until Bangs Ambulance arrived. Three other female victims with stab wounds were found, and all four women were transported to Cayuga Medical Center. Police say "several subjects" were taken into custody at the time of the incident.
Three of the four victims were transferred to a regional trauma center, and the fourth was released late last night after being treated for her wounds. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. An IPD spokesman says Bangs Ambulance and Ithaca Fire Department personnel assisted with treating victims at the scene.
Sweat was remanded to Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. Police ask anyone who might have pertinent information that could aid their investigation to call IPD at 607-272-9973, or use the crime stoppers tipline at 607-697-0333 or online.
