No one was hurt, except for a Mercedes Benz, in a fire this morning in Brooktondale, east of Ithaca. Brooktondale, Slaterville, and Ithaca firefighters all worked together at the scene to put out the car fire and save the nearby home and other vehicles.

Photo provided by IFD.Tompkins County dispatchers received a 911 call just before 8:30 on Wednesday morning from a woman reporting that her car was on fire in her Slaterville Road driveway. Firefighters responded to find the fire scene up a steep driveway with multiple switchbacks, "making access for equipment and personnel very difficult," according to Ithaca Fire Department public information officer Thomas T. Basher Jr.

Basher says fire chiefs on the scene ferried crews from the road up to the car in smaller department vehicles. He says "other than a few melted lights on the second vehicle," firefighters were able to keep the damage to the Mercedes, which was a total loss. The woman's home was not damaged. Brooktondale Fire Department is investigating the cause of the blaze.
