To kick off "Come Play Hockey Month," which is November, the NHL and USA Hockey have announced that hundreds of local hockey programs across the country are hosting "Try Hockey for Free" events this Saturday for children ages 4-9.

McDonald Sports Complex in Cortland, Chenango Ice Rink in Binghamton, Onondaga Nation Arena in Nedrow, and Geneva Recreation Complex in Geneva. There is no charge to participate, but USA Hockey encourages parents to register their kids at www.tryhockeyforfree.com in advance. Certified coaching staff will be on hand at each location, and each facility will have a limited amount of equipment available for kids to use.
The Cass Park ice rink, which is operated by the City of Ithaca, has parent-and-child beginner lessons beginning this Friday, but is not participating as a "Try Hockey for Free" site.
