We've been inspired by the number and variety of collections over the last week or so, as determined members of the community have gathered warm clothing, toiletries, canned goods, and emergency supplies for donation to areas affected by Hurricane Sandy, in some cases delivering items at their own expense. Those efforts, though, don't change the fact that our own region has as many residents in need of warm clothing and outerwear as ever.
Enter the 20th annual Share the Warmth campaign, a collaborative effort to gather new and gently used coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, winter boots, snowpants, sweaters, sweatshirts, and blankets. Organizers say blankets are urgently needed this year.
Sponsored by Cornell University, Ithaca College, TC3, Ithaca and Trumansburg Rotary Clubs, Samaritan Center of Catholic Charities, and Finger Lakes Re-Use, the drive features collection points at all Cornell residence halls and several academic and administrative buildings, the Ithaca College Campus Center, Tompkins Cortland Community College, The Rink, P&C Fresh, GreenStar, and several additional locations.
A complete list of collection points is on the Share the Warmth web page. The drive runs November 10th through December 10th.
