Cass Park ice skating canceled for today due to unseasonably warm weather

November 24, 2014 by Rachel Cera

This afternoon's public ice skating sessions at Cass Park have been canceled due to the unseasonably warm weather, as well as mechanical difficulties. The 68-degree temperature recorded at the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport sets a new record. The previous record high for November 24th was 67 degrees, set in 1931.

Cass Park's rink, which serves as a roller rink during the summer and an ice rink during the winter, has open walls, making it especially susceptible to temperature swings.

Cass Park also has a public swimming pool that's open during summer months, and softball fields. The City says the ice rink will be open again as soon as possible. Team hockey practices are also likely to be affected by the ice outage.
