Winter weather advisory in effect for Friday into Saturday

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Central New York beginning at noon on Friday and lasting until 7am Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton. Rain this evening is likely to give way to ice pellets overnight, but temperatures aren't expected to drop below the mid 30s until midday Friday.

Ice accumulation of up to a quarter inch could make roads slippery on Friday afternoon, and precipitation is expected to change entirely over to snow by Friday evening. Accumulations of 2-5 inches are likely by late Friday night.

The National Weather Service says snow should end by daybreak on Saturday.
