A Cornell University student was caught in the act while trying to steal drugs from the Gannett Health Center early Monday morning, University officials say. The student had reportedly broken in through a smashed window.

The Cornell University Police Department says a CUPD auxiliary team was alerted at 2:20am Monday that a suspicious person was in the area of the campus health center, at the corner of Campus Road and Ho Plaza near the Collegetown entrance to campus. Responding officers discovered an exterior window on the north side of the building had been smashed in, and, believing the suspect might still be inside, established a perimeter around the area with the help of the Ithaca Police Department and Tompkins County Sheriff's Department.

Hudak, a senior in Cornell's School of Hotel Administration. Their investigation showed there had been forced entry into the pharmacy area of the facility, and police say they recovered "controlled substances and prescription medication that were found in Hudak's possession."

Hudak was transported to CUPD headquarters for processing, and then arraigned in Ithaca City Court on charges of third-degree burglary, a class D felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor. He was remanded to Tompkins County Jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bail bond. He is scheduled to reappear in Ithaca City Court on January 26th, 2015 for a pre-trial hearing, and CUPD says further charges are pending.
