Ithaca Farmers Market wraps up 2015 season with annual Rutabaga Curl tomorrow

December 18, 2015 by Rachel Cera

Saturday will be cloudy and cold, with flurries or snow showers likely, but you can bet that won't chill the mood at the Ithaca Farmers Market, where the last Saturday market of the year will be punctuated by the 18th annual Rutabaga Curling World Championship.

"Where else but in Ithaca would we make an event centered around a root vegetable?"

Registration begins at 10am for those who'd like to participate, and organizers urge athletes to arrive by that time. The games themselves will begin at noon.

The Vociferous Cruciferous Chorus will offer their traditional performance of their rutabagafied version of Handel's Messiah, "Rutabaga!" Anyone who'd like to participate in the singing should be there at 11:30 to rehearse a couple of times, say chorus organizers.

The market itself is open 10am-2pm tomorrow. From January 9th through March 27th, the Ithaca Farmers Market will have a weekly indoor market in The Space at GreenStar, in Ithaca's west end, Saturdays from 11am-2pm. The market will return to Steamboat Landing in April.
