Saturday will be cloudy and chilly, with flurries or snow showers likely, but you can bet that won't chill the mood at the Ithaca Farmers Market, where the last Saturday market of the year will be punctuated by the 15th annual Rutabaga Curling World Championship.
Registration begins at 10:30am for those who'd like to participate, and organizers urge athletes to arrive by that time. The games themselves will begin at noon. Local musician Joe Crookston will perform "The Rutabaga Curl," and the Vociferous Cruciferous Chorus will sing "Rutabaga!"
"The Rutabaga Curl makes the last Farmers Market of the year so much fun," says thirteen-year veteran market vendor Leslie Muhlhahn, owner of Just Desserts and Finger Lakes Flatbreads. "Where else but in Ithaca would we make an event centered around a root vegetable?"
The market itself is open 10am-2pm tomorrow. From January 12th through March 30th, the Ithaca Farmers Market will have a weekly indoor market in The Space at GreenStar Cooperative Market, in Ithaca's west end, Saturdays from 11am-2pm. The market will return to Steamboat Landing in April.
