Ithaca firefighters extinguish Christmas Eve vehicle blaze on South Hill

No one was injured on Thursday evening when Ithaca firefighters made quick work of a vehicle fire on South Hill. Engine 5 from the nearby South Hill Station was joined by firefighters from IFD's Central Fire Station just before 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Photo courtesy of IFD.Arriving firefighters found a 2003 Volkswagon Passat "fully involved in fire," with the driver out and unhurt. They were able to stretch a hose to knock down the engine compartment fire, and crews were done in less than an hour.

An IFD statement says the cause of the fire was a malfunction in the engine compartment.
